Does the way the media reports the student loan crisis annoy you?

It’s no secret that the media stokes outrage in order to generate attention. If you’re frustrated with the personal opinions and marketing ploys passing for news while avoiding real issues, you’re not alone.

I must admit to a certain degree of disappointment when I update myself on the latest student loan bailout news. Reader comments generally fall far below where the discussion should be.

Mostly I see judgements of character…

…Young people should not have taken out loans for degrees that did not give them a skill in demand on the job market.

…Colleges and universities should not be taking government money for degrees they know are useless.

…President Biden should not have done an end run around Congress with his executive order.

None of this addresses the important questions. Let’s step back and address the fundamental issues driving the student loan issue and the wider disaster of higher education.
