Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate it.
I’m not sure what you mean when you say “”…our present culture or set of arrangements.” Culture is always in a state of change. Art, music and literature are constantly in flux, but so subtly we don’t tend to notice until we look back a number of years.
Maybe you are referring to changing political and social values. (I hope I’m not putting words in your mouth. It’s not my intention.)
We seem to be moving away from the ethos of an activist government and towards more local control. The disarray in the Democratic party is the most obvious sign right now. Leaders of both parties are very old now and fading from the scene along with their values and aspirations. Identity politics certainly seems to be losing steam, for example. As soon as Trump is out of office the same disarray will be seen in the Republican party. I think as a people we are looking for a new direction. C19 is going to put a finer point on that and maybe give some focus.
One example of that is the emergence of state governors as agents of change. It’s only been a few weeks, but it’s obvious that state government is moving to chart their own path. The recent bickering between the governors of New York and Arkansas is an example.
And yes, you are right. I juxtaposed the dates of those tragic assassinations.
