That’s probably one reason, but I suspect another is to solidify her image as a rebel/socialist. That might win her some support, but it also emphasizes her place as an “outsider”. The Squad might get media attention, but they can’t move the needle on legislative results unless they compromise with others outside their ideological bubble. That’s where redirecting DNC/Caucus dues to campaigns of other far left candidates comes in.
Of course, the more she broadens her message to attract other groups, the less radical she becomes. Long term effects will depend on the party and the country embracing progressive/left wing/socialist ideology. It looks like public opinion is swaying in the other direction, but the results of the presidential election will determine how significant that sway is.
