I suspect the Chinese people you are talking about would think they are doing better. We see people in Bangladesh working 12 hour shifts in those dangerous God-awful factories and are understandably outraged, but they are delighted to be out from behind an ox plowing fields in the desert. Sometimes you have to take the long view on these things. The world is improving, but not uniformly or steadily.
